The Neck Side Flexion exercise is aiming to improve the range of movement of the neck, specifically in moving your head left and right.
In standing simply move your left ear down to your left shoulder and then your right ear towards your right shoulder in a slow and controlled manner. Start off slow and build up the range after a few repetitions to allow your muscles time to relax into the movement.
If this exercise is too challenging you may find either the Lying Neck Rotation or Neck Rotation exercise more suitable at this stage – a video of how to perform this exercise is available on our channel. You can then build up to the Neck Side Flexion exercise once your mobility improves.
Aim to complete the reps and sets as suggested in your free rehabilitation programme from our website.
If you find this exercise helpful, there are a number of other neck mobility exercises available on our channel.
