This exercise is Isometric Shoulder Adduction and its aim is to strengthen the muscles which help move your arm inwards.
In sitting or standing you can have your elbow either bent at 90 degrees or straight down by your side, place a rolled up towel between your arm and your torso, and then bring your arm towards your body pushing against the towel. Your shoulder and arm shouldn’t move but the muscles in your shoulder will be contracting.
To make this easier you can simply reposition your arm when you are pushing inwards, and to make it harder increase the intensity of duration you are holding this contraction.
Aim to complete the duration and sets as suggested in your free rehabilitation programme from our website.
