Thoracic Extension on a Bench

The Thoracic Extension on a Bench exercise is aiming to improve the range of movement of the middle portion of the spine, specifically the thoracic being able to move backwards.

Start by kneeling in front of a bench, chair or bed. Place your elbows on the chair, bench or bed and position your knees far enough away so that your back is straight and parallel with the floor. From this position aim to move your chest closer to the floor so that your thoracic portion of your spine is being moved into extension, you should be keeping your knees in the same position, but you may need to move your hips backwards. At the end of the movement simply return to the start position.

Aim to complete the reps and sets as suggested in your rehab programme.

If you find this exercise helpful, there are a number of other thoracic and lower back mobility exercises available on our channel.
