Single Leg Balance
This exercise is single leg balance, and the aim is to improve your proprioception on the muscles and tendons in your leg.
Start on a stable solid ground standing on one leg and simply have your other leg raised off the ground. Aim to hold this position in a controlled manner for the duration suggested in your rehab programme.
If you have a lot of body movement as you struggle to hold the position, you may need to make things easier by gently holding onto the wall. This can be with a light touch and you may find you only need this for a few seconds. It is normal for your ankle to make lots of small movements as the muscles are correcting themselves to hold you in this position.
If you find this exercise too easy, you can make it harder by either closing your eyes, putting a cushion or towel underneath your foot, or by slowly moving your arms up and down to make it more challenging. With any increase in difficulty you should still be able to hold the position in a controlled manner.
