The Seated Thoracic Rotation exercise is aiming to improve the range of movement of the middle portion of the spine, specifically the thoracic being able to move left and right.
In sitting, start in good posture by sitting up nice and tall, have your arms folded in front of you, or have your hands locked together at roughly chest height.
From here, simply rotate to either the left or right, with your hips on the chair not moving. Your chest should be leading the movement, and if done properly you should feel your middle back, the thoracic, being mobilised.
Once you get to the end of your range return to the start position and go the other way. You can increase the speed you perform this movement as you begin to loosen off.
Aim to complete the reps and sets as suggested in your rehab programme.
If you find this exercise helpful, there are a number of other thoracic and lower back mobility exercises available on our channel.
